Learning objectives
- Select the right indirect material (glass ceramic, zirconia, indirect composite or 3D-printed resin) based on biomechanical assessment and clinical indication
- Achieve reliable rubber dam isolation on compromised teeth, including clamp selection, floss ligatures, PTFE packing and sulcular inversion
- Apply conservative, defect-driven preparation principles for inlays, onlays and overlays
- Understand biomimetic principles such as immediate dentin sealing (IDS) and deep margin elevation (DME) as well as substrate-specific intaglio conditioning (HF etching vs 10-MDP and sandblasting)
- Differentiate luting, bonding and cementing, and navigate through the different cementation options
- Carry out a stress-free cementation protocol covering try-in, substrate preparation, clean-up, oxygen inhibition layer management and sequential polishing

Afternoon: Hands-on workshops
- 13:30 to 15:00 | Workshop 1: Isolation Mastery and Deep Margin Elevation. Single-tooth vs quadrant isolation, floss ligatures, PTFE packing and sectional matrix placement for deep margin elevation (DME) on typodonts with subgingival margins
- 15:00 to 16:45 | Workshop 2: Cementation, Bonding and Finishing. Substrate-specific surface pre-treatment of IPS e.max (lithium disilicate) and zirconia overlays, try-in paste and clean-up, resin cement seating, tack-cure gel removal, glycerin air-block application and four-step diamond and rubber polishing

Presenters
Dr Kaveer Ratan
Dr Kaveer Ratan is the founder and clinical director of Ratan & Co Dentistry in Granger Bay, Cape Town. He qualified with a BChD from the University of the Western Cape in 2009 and went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate and a Postgraduate Diploma in Implantology at the University of Pretoria.
Early in his career he founded an oral health centre in Pongola serving underserved communities. He then practised in Durban, where he focused on restorative and implant dentistry, before relocating to Cape Town in 2016 and working in private practice. His clinical interests include advanced implant dentistry, full-mouth rehabilitation, adhesive dentistry and aesthetic dentistry, and he regularly attends international courses to keep up with modern advances.
Dr Ratan is an Exco member of the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD) and speaks at its events. He is a mentor for Nexus Dental and a Key opinion leader for Ivoclar.
Dr Sean Botha
Dr Sean Botha is a dedicated clinician based in Cape Town, South Africa, where he operates two general dental practices. With a deep commitment to preserving natural tooth structure, his clinical focus is centred on the art and science of Biomimetic Restorative Dentistry.
