Presentation Topics Overview:

Comprehensive Healthcare Era: Role of Periodontal Health

Periodontitis is an infectious disease characterized by the destruction of the attachment apparatus in response to the inflammation caused by the periodontal pathogens. This infection has been linked to several systemic health conditions affecting the human body, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and pregnancy complications. For these reasons, periodontal health has gained more attention and importance during the last few decades, in terms of prevention, diagnosis and management. This presentation aims to present the current evidence related to the relationship between periodontitis and systemic health problems. It would also focus on the positive effects of periodontal treatment in patients with these conditions, with an emphasis on the role of active non-surgical periodontal therapy as well as supportive therapy.

Paradigm shift in non-surgical periodontal therapy: New approaches for a classical treatment

The goal of periodontal therapy is to preserve and maintain the dentition. This includes non-surgical instrumentation and supragingival plaque control. The available literature indicates that subgingival debridement is effective in reducing inflammation, probing pocket depths, and improving clinical attachment levels. However, there is growing evidence that supports changes and modifications in our classical approach to non-surgical therapy. This presentation aims to review the literature regarding the new approaches of non-surgical therapy in relation to microbiome and the role of different microorganisms. There will be an emphasis on the supportive periodontal therapy after the active treatment and the different methods that can be employed to ensure positive results. Finally, the presentation will focus on the changing dynamics in medicine in this era; namely minimal invasiveness, biological foundation, and patient-friendly approaches.
